McCain's Speech Revealed the Tactic--Use Palin as a Pit Bull
McCain once again showed that he is not a very good speaker, especially in front of a bunch of white people. There seemed to be more people of color featured in the introductory video than in the entire stadium in St. Paul. OK, it's St. Paul, but the Republican delegates are supposed to come from all over the country.
My favorite line was how he said his father never talked about his war experience, that he was quiet about it. McCain certainly isn't quiet about his!!!
What I resent the most was how he characterized his ambition to be president as service to his country and not about him. That he lost his self while suffering in Hanoi. That is disingenuous. John McCain and Barack Obama are very ambitious men with enormous egos, extraordinary confidence, and drive. That isn't selfless, don't kid yourself.
Service to country is a good slogan. That message will resound with many people. Yet after eight years of war profiteering and appointments based solely on a severe belief in God, I fear that message is really that professionals are no longer needed. We just need worker bees.
We need a re-examination of how we govern, how we elect our leaders, and how we treat each other. I don't trust John McCain to lead that process of self-examination. I especially don't trust Sarah Palin to lead either. But we can see how they will divide up the responsibility of the Republican attack machine: he will be conciliatory and she will be vicious.
